Union decides to submit memo on PRC issue

BOMDILA, Sept 29: The IXth General Conference-cum- election of the All West Kameng Nyishi Students Welfare Association (AWKNSWA) was concluded peacefully here at Kameng Club on Sept 27 last.

Pitam Dolo Pangia, Chief Auditor ANSU while attending the program as the Chief Guest exhorted the students and public attending the event to maintain the spirit of peace and brotherhood amongst themselves and also with the other fraternal tribes of the district.

Dolo while advocating for the granting of PRC to the Nyishi brothers and sisters of the district said that, the tribal citizens who have been dwelling in the district for more than a decade and before the attainment of the statehood of the state in February 1987 are quite prospective and equitable of gaining the PRC in the district. He also emphasized the role and wish of the ANSU for the wellbeing of the Nyishi brethren of the state dwelling in any corner of the state.

Dolo assured to submit memorandum to the DC and local MLA regarding the granting of PRC to the Nyishi denizens of the district as per the mentioned period of dwelling.

JNC donates desks, benches, chairs to schools

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: JN College, Pasighat under its extension activity has donated three Green Boards along with dusters and dust free chalk pencils to its campus Middle school. The college also donated the Anganwadi School four pairs of desks and benches, two plastic chairs and few wires for restoration of electricity.

While donating the items, Principal of the college TTalom assured the school of all possible help in future too. He advised the students to study hard to become worthy citizens of the society.

Present on the occasion were DVLN Rao, KC Mishra and Dr. SN Panda, Dr. SK Sinha, all associate professors.

JNCAA meet

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: Jawaharlal Nehru College Alumni Association (JNCAA) organized its formal General Body Meet at the college auditorium yesterday.

Addressing the meeting, Principal of the college Tayek Talom highlighted the various achievements of the college since its establishment in 1964. Digitalization of classroom, digital language laboratory, biotech hub, IT accessibility and PG courses in History and Geography were some of the achievements, the Principal said that appealed to the alumna and alumnus to help the college in attaining further height.

Vijay Taram, Lawyer, T Gamoh, Public Leader, A Jamoh, DACO and Kaling Dai, ZPC speaking on the occasion, extended their all possible help to the college authority to steer education to further heights as well as strengthen college administration.

The meeting also discussed regarding celebration of Golden Jubilee of the college in 2014.

Colony road restored by social service

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: The damaged link road connecting NH-52 A with Dikrong colony via NERIST Type -1 colony was restored after a daylong social service today.

Incessant rain since yesterday night caused extensive damage to the road making it very difficult not only for vehicular movement but also for pedestrians to walk.

The social service was conducted by Councillor (Ward no.29) Tarh Nachung, with the help of colony dwellers, ward committee members and Assistant Engineer PWD A Techi Nabo renovated the road during the day-long social service today.

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: The Murh-Hatey Academic Development Society (MHADS) of Bamang clan has expressed shock over tragic death of Bamang Nilo of Langrh village under Nyobia circle near Sangram reportedly due to electrocution.

According to an MHADS release, Nilo, 45, has died due to electrocution when he came in contact with a ‘leaked electric pole’ in the jungle today. He was presently working as WC chowkidar at Sangram PWD.

He is survived by his wife and two sons.

While conveying heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family, the Society prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Meanwhile, the society expressed deep concern over repeated occurrence of such incidence on regular interval leading to loss of many precious lives.

While demanding a detailed enquiry into the incident, the Society urged the authority to suitably compensate the family of deceased. It also demanded that if any officers/staff of the department concerned is found guilty of negligence should be booked and punished as per law.

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: Inaugurated officially on September 23 last by PHED Chief Engineer Toko Jyoti and hidden underneath a landscape of under-construction concrete structures is a marvel of design and beauty that offers a little something different, to a slightly different kind of customers.

Pera’s- a name synonymous with beauty treatments in the capital complex- has opened its latest branch in the heart of Itanagar at Zero Point Tinali, near Hotel Moomsie.

Located in an unsuspecting area, walking into the spa and salon is bound to surprise first timers. A Delhi University graduate, Teri says that every business has risks attached to it but feels “positive” about the launch. With investments of over Rs 60 lakhs and financial aid received from Punjab National Bank, he would be hoping that positive attitude turns to real gains as he looks to expand the brand into the districts as well.

Students caught up between politicians

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: In a shameful incident on 27th of this month, two factions of All Mishmi Students Union (AMSU) indulged in slugfest over the venue for coming AMSU election cum conference to be held in October month. Tezu town witnessed violent clashes among student groups. Hotel, houses, bikes and car were damaged when two groups fought throughout 27th night.

According to the police source there has been simmering tension over last few days regarding the venue of election. A faction of AMSU lead by its president wants election cum conference to be held at Hawaii, whereas another group lead by general secretary of same union want it to be held at Wakro.

As per the sources, the AMSU team lead by president is being funded by Anjaw MLA and that of general secretary by Tezu MLA. “This problem is going on since last two year. The interference of politicians in AMSU election and even that of Tezu college election has become big social issue. For their benefit, the politicians are spoiling life of students and these need to be stopped at the earliest,” stated a citizen of Tezu over phone.

As follow up of violent clash, now ugly verbal war has begun among two factions. The group lead by AMSU President has accused Tezu MLA of instigating the violence and claimed that they have lodged an FIR at Tezu police station yesterday but police has failed to act on the complaint and not a single culprits or offenders has been arrested till date. When contacted SP Lohit Tumme Amo informed that situation is now under control and police have lodge case against both factions for disturbing law and order in Tezu town. “Deputy Commissioner along with me on Friday afternoon had invited both the faction separately to discuss about venue issue. During the meeting both group agreed not to create any law and order problem. We have taken note of their breach of trust and have booked case for breaking law. Soon we will arrest them and punish as per the law,” said SP Amo.

Dress code for ‘Mutia’ in Ziro soon

ZIRO, Sept 29: Local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Land Management, Urban Development, Housing and Town Planning) Padi Richo has announced uniform with badge for the coolies (Mutia) of Ziro-Hapoli for their easy identification. He disclosed it at the inaugural function of district-cum-block unit Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) meeting at Club Road, Hapoli today.

Addressing the inaugural function, Richo informed the coolies and INTUC members about insurance policy that are available for all labourers.

Explaining the details of the insurance coverage like medical assistance of upto Rs. 30000, educational assistance of Rs. 50000 and many others like tools advance, maternity assistance, old age pension, disability pension, normal death, funeral assistance etc., he said that the premium to be contributed by labourer is Rs. 20 only per month.

Richo announced to a huge applaud from gathering to pay the premium on behalf of Mutias if they are willing to bring themselves under insurance policy, saying he knows the problems faced by the labours as he is attached with them for last 30 years.

He asked INTUC district unit and INTUC Ziro Block unit for arranging the documents of those labourers who are willing to apply for insurance policy.

Lower Subansiri district’s Zilla Chairperson Hage Kobing said that with the opening of INTUC office, labour class like coolie will get the benefit and he assured to extend all possible help if needed in near future. Among others, DCC(I) President Kime Nime also spoke on the function.

Earlier in his welcome speech Hage Ropo, president, INTUC district unit highlight on the importance of having its office in district while Kago Taming, president INTUC block unit gave away the vote of thanks.

126th birth anniversary of Thakur Anukul celebrated

Meanwhile, 126th birth anniversary of Sree Sree Thakur Anukul Chandra was celebrated in a befitting manner here at Durga Mandir, Hapoli today.

Attending the celebration, local MLA Padi Richo assured to provide necessary assistance for construction of ‘Satsang Mandir’ at Hill Top where the believers can perform their activities independently. It is worth mentioning here that plot where theMandir is to be constructed was also donated by MLA himself.

Flaying misuse of the God’s name by some vested interested persons, Richo feels that God will never be happy on them who are after wealth, active in politics and dividing the families using the name of God. He appreciated the messages of Thakur Anukul Chandra and considered Him as the scientific god who does not distinguish religions. He asked followers to inculcate the taught of the great Thakur Anukul Chandra.

UGC sponsored seminar on ‘Differential Equation’

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: The Department of Mathematics, JN College, Pasighat today organized a UGC (CPE) sponsored seminar on ‘Differential Equation.’

Participating in the seminar Kalom Ering, Coordinator, SSA, East Siang emphasized the need of such seminars to ignite the mathematical sparks in the hearts of the students.

Dr. SN Panda, coordinator, NAAC motivated the gathering to be engaged in such brain-storming seminar to empower their creative faculty with intellectual reasoning. Dr. SN Yadav, HOD, Mathematics, delivered the key note address and also presented a model paper on ‘Ramanujam: The Great Indian Mathematician’. DVLN Rao presented a paper on ‘Graph Theory’.

The Technical session witnessed some powerful PowerPoint presentations by half a dozen students of the Dept.

Dr. K Bhattacharjee spoke on the use of Mathematics in everyday world during the valedictory function.

The seminar was attended by all the students of the Department, the faculties of the college and the dignitaries from other streams of the District Administration.

Parbuk Baptist Church celebrates golden jubilee

ROING, Sept 29: The Baptist Church, Parbuk under Dibang Lohit Baptist Church Association (DLBCA) celebrated its Golden Jubilee with theme “Arise, Shine, for your light has come” today.

This Baptist Church was established on September 22 in 1963 with late Kolpak Lego as its first pastor. The church was inaugurated by Rev J. C. Koron, an American Missionary.

Speaker Rev. Daniel Noroh, Pastor of Rayang Baptist Church, Roing in his inspiring and enlightening speech said that this occasion has provided us an opportunity to re unite with our fellow brethren and strengthen moral values. It is an occasion to introspect our past life as well as the church activities as a whole and to make a rededication to bring about a change in moral character, economical and social life and to shoulder more responsibilities for betterment of younger generations, he added.

Kaling Pertin, ZPM Dambuk Anchal Block appealed all, especially the parents and elders to teach their children to adopt right path and not to practice unlawful activities. He called upon each one to make Lower Dibang Valley District a Drug Free and requested the elderly women to initiate steps in this regard.

He released the Golden Jubilee Souvenir of the Church.

Miti Libang, ZPM Meka Anchal Block said that the real meaning of bringing and showing the light is fulfilled when a brother or sister in a wrong path like intoxication, drug addicts and living an unpeaceful life are brought back to the right path of peace and quiet life.

Subash Pertin, Principal ITI, Roing a member of the church while highlighting the historical background and aims and objectives of the celebration informed that with fourteen members in the beginning the church has grown large with 124 household and 480 members today.

Mumbai Film maker lauds Youth Library activists

APNE Library conducts Literacy Mela

WAKRO, Sept 29: “Your enthusiastic performance of literary activities is truly inspiring and would go a long way to promote good reading habits of rural youth” lauded P N Ramchandra, well-known documentary film maker from Mumbai, as he watched and filmed an hour long “Literacy Mela” by the APNE Library Wakro, as the concluding event of Literacy week celebrations in Lohit.

The activists from Wakro, Tezu and Chongkham joyously presented poem-recitation, story-telling and skits in English, Hindi and Mishmi languages as a large audience of students, teachers, Govt. officials and parents sat glued to their seats at the ASSET campus in Wakro yesterday. Ramchandra also congratulated the teachers and managements of all schools in Wakro for spiritedly encouraging their students to share their literacy skills with the nearby village youth.

Speaking on the occasion, Silotmai Dellang, a parent, expressed how happy she was to see the substantial educational improvement among library-activists. She warmly praised them for conducting the vacation mini-libraries in several villages in Wakro circle, and thus promoting a reading environment in such remote places.

Manju Ama, Principal Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Wakro, speaking on behalf of teachers, exhorted all parents to encourage the children to use the APNE library regularly and widen their learning horizon. “Let many more children follow the example of these activists”, she said.

The highlight of the Mela was a witty skit “Kaaniyaa” in Mishmi language that portrayed how opium wrecks family life and dooms future generations. It was directed by Besunlu Mepong, class 9, Govt Secondary School Wakro with Bialu Kambrai as the opium addict. The skit Baby Halder, an inspiring story of a house-maid turned author, saw Priya Ngi and Kishalu Kri presenting brilliant portrayals as Professor and Baby Halderr. Equally impressive were Laxmi Ngadong and team’s (KGBV, Wakro) poetic skit “Why can’t I fly?” and Hindi poetry recitations ‘Myao Myao’ (AVB, Wakro), ‘Haathi aur Macchar’ and ‘Aathi sardi..’ (both KGBV) .Diyanlu Minin in Mishmi language and Priya and Bithamlu Thalai in Hindi, gave brilliant demonstrations of the almost vanished story-telling skills. One wished more schools adopt this ancient technique to promote language and speaking skills.

Anjangmai Mam conducted the proceedings while Bialu Kambrai (both Cl 9, GHS Tezu) expressed the heartfelt gratitude of the activists to all parents, patrons and specially Ramchandra for coming all the way at his own expense to make a documentary on the Lohit Youth Libraries.

Earlier, the activists had also conducted a reading campaign programme at the Kanjang Primary School. The Mela was sponsored by the Surajmal Jalan Charitable Trust, Dibrugarh.

Climate change and Asia

BBC Media Action has launched Asia's largest study into people's experiences of climate change. Climate Asia forms a comprehensive picture of how people from poor farmers to urban professionals are responding to changes in their environment, and maps where communities are struggling and adapting.

Almost all of the 33,500 respondents across seven countries identified significant changes to their environment and basic resources - from increased temperatures and extreme weather events to decreases in water and food.

In India, almost half of respondents surveyed across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and Mumbai were struggling or finding it impossible to take any action at all. A large percentage (44 per cent) of rural respondents felt that agricultural productivity had declined over the last ten years and farmers said that crops had declined due to unpredictable rainfall. But poor and rural communities had low access to information that could help them to manage shrinking resources such as water, which all groups reported as their biggest worry.

Only 17 per cent of respondents in Madhya Pradesh felt informed about how to respond to changes in their environment, and many simply did not feel that they could take individual action.

On the other hand, 74 per cent of respondents in Mumbai said that they felt informed and better off urban respondents reported making changes such as saving energy, finding new water sources and planning for disasters.

Ninety percent of people across the five states and Mumbai said that changes in the environment were impacting on their household income, but only 30 per cent were willing to make changes to their livelihoods. Over half said that it was not their responsibility to take action - while also expressing low confidence in government to help them. This lack of willingness to change livelihoods contrasts with Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan where 85 per cent, 68 per cent, and 46 per cent respectively said that they were willing.

The findings highlight 20 groups in need of support, including farmers in Madhya Pradesh, the urban poor in Mumbai and housewives in Uttarakhand.

Include Nugong Banggo under MsDP scheme

Dear Editor,

Am referring to the discussion raised in the state Assembly regarding MsDP scheme selection and implementation in the state. Chief Minister’s reply in the Assembly was, “The identification of these blocks is based on deficiency in the socio-economic and basic amenities parameters.” He further said that MsDP is meant for common development like roads, bridges and hospital, I am really confused how these 12 (twelve) block was identified? The identified blocks are based on less development or religious minority concentrated areas? If we talk of development in the state, the places like Tawang, Sagalee, Seppa, Dirang, Basar, Namsai, Bordumsa,and Ramle Bango are well developed in compare to Nugong Banggo of Pangin circle. In regards to religious minority concentrated areas is concern, the Nugong Banggo is no less to all these places because, 30% of the population are the preachers of Christianity. If identified block is based on backwardness, the Nugong Banggo could have been listed in merit list as these Banggo must be the only Banggo which does not have road connectivity after 67th year of Indian independence though the Banggo lies in the middle of Pasighat -Yingkiong via Pangin and Pasighat Yingkiong via Mariyang roads.

As per socio-economic amenities is concerned, the people of these Banggo are so poor that they are completely dependent on agriculture produces which hardly suffice their needs not to talk of giving proper education and good health to their children’s. These Banggo comprises of eight (8) villages namely Sisen, Pangi, komsing, Komsing (karoh),Jorsing, Mopit, Begging and Riew. Unfortunately, the MoS for Minority Affairs GoI Ninong Ering who represent these most backward Banggo in the Eastern Parliamentary constituency, has the better knowledge of the conditions of the people living in these Banggo. But none of the above villages / block were included in the priority list, of course, who cares the destiny of the people are written by God only. Now the election times is fast approaching, I would like to appeal to all the aspirants not to put a salt on the wound as the people of these Banggo are bored of listening big promises made by the leader & politicians during their festivity of election.

I appeal to the minister concerned and the policy makers of the state to include the Nugong Banggo areas under MsDP scheme.

Good officer should be supported by public

Dear Editor,

Arunachal Pradesh is one of most corrupted states of India. I personally thank our respected ADM cum Chief Estate Officer Mr Talo Potom, who is fighting as one man army and doing wonderful works for the betterment of Arunachal Pradesh. Please continue to fight for the society. Talo Potom has sacrificed his life for the service of the people. There are many officers in the field but not all of them are ready to serve people like he does.

When we look around, right from peon to officers everybody is busy earning money. If we ask one recommendation letter they will charge Rs 200 to 300 for service. Even though they are getting salary but still they are earning extra and cheating public's money. However Talo Potom is the one who is doing justice to the society. I request all people of Arunachal Pradesh to wake up and join together with Talo Potom sir in his fight. If you are a society leader, why you are against those, who has sacrifices their life to serve the people.

I am proud of our officer Talo Potom. Go ahead and complete the great responsibility to serve the people. May God bless You.

Seppa is back to candle age

Dear Editor.

Candle light dinner may be a very special and occasional moment for some love couples and people in other district of Arunachal Pradesh but for the citizen of Seppa Township, headquarter of East Kameng District it has became daily affair. For the last three months people are compelled to have candle light dinner.

Every establishments, Offices, Schools, Medical, Banks and Shops are running somehow thanks to Generator and Inverter. When we enquired about the problems at Pacha Hydel, a person told that both machines have been damaged may be because of over age and lack of maintenance as both the engines were bought second hand from Kolkata. Also engineer in charge does not visit regularly; they only visit once in a week by leaving full responsibility to the operator who is also untrained. Moreover the storage tank of the Hydel is full due to siltation owing to lack of maintenance. Due to all these defects the problems of the power crisis has cropped up but the engineers of both concern department that is Hydro power and Electrical department are making lame excuse about the problems and blaming each other. Who is to be blamed for not maintaining the Hydel regularly inspite of huge revenue collection? Is it because officials are not doing their duty sincerely and keeping untrained operator at Pacha Hydel or the contractor who supplied second hand Engines????These questions remain mystery. Adding salt in the wound power Minister Mr. Tanga Byaling during his maiden visit to Seppa on 10th August 2013 at Kameng Hall with his loud mouth announced and promised to normalize the power problem within a month and announced Rs one crore to buy Diesel for immediate restoration of power through the Diesel Engine power house near Abo Tani Manch after huge public outcry and protest outside Kameng Hall. Till now citizens of Seppa Township are hoping for the outcome of the promised by made by Minister Tanga Byaling who gave reassurance after telephonic exchange at that moment with chief minister but till today there is no result. Where is that Rs one crore diesel and promises made for normalization of power??Is he once again exposing the inherent nature of bluff and big mouth of the Arunachal politicians?? Kudos those public of Seppa township which expressed outcry and protested against Mr Tanga Byaling at that evening at Kameng Hall and I think it was the historic and commendable start by the citizens of Seppa township to use their anger and unity for the good cause of the society and I believe that it was totally a frustrated public outcry of the Seppa township. Then why are today all our MLAs, public leader, students leaders and leaders of uncountable association and organization of East Kament District are waiting for their second turn and keeping silence as East Kameng is known to be the district which has highest numbers of association and unions and also most of the leaders of the apex student organization of the state like AAPSU&ANSU are from East Kameng districts and where is the EKSCWO?? When there is any communal or clan problems then there is unity and strength, and people are ready to go first and even ready to sacrifice their life. Many a time’s people give life threatening to the engineers even for small amount work order in the district. Then why they are silent today and not even making any enquiry call to the engineers of concern department of Hydro power and Electrical Department. So, enough is enough. I request all unions ,organizations, NGOs of East Kameng district especially EKSCWO to stand up together and fight for the power crisis of Seppa township before it’s too late and use their anger and strength for the good cause at least for such moment.

Provide dustbin at E-sector

Dear Editor,

Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to bring to the notice of concerned authorities that E- Sector, Itanagar is in need of a proper dustbin. Due to the lack of proper dustbin, domestic wastes are dumped in nearby road side. And most of the time wastes are found lying on the road itself giving foul smell. Untimely picking up of wastes and ignorance in constructing proper dustbin at the earliest may even lead to outbreak of many diseases like malaria, dengue, etc., as we are quite aware that mosquitoes are best breeded in such areas.

Therefore, it is my request to the concerned authorities to look into the matter and do the needful act at the earliest, as the saying goes, "Prevention is better than cure".
